Oranges/Sardines - The Studio of Ted Waltz & Carol Colin
Carol Colin and Ted Waltz share a studio in the heart of historic Highland Park, corner of Avenue 54 and Monte Vista, 5 blocks from the Metro Gold Line station at Avenue 57. Oranges/Sardines is our business name, going back to the 1980's when we ran Oranges/Sardines Gallery in Little Tokyo. Visit our studio any time by appointment - click here to set a time, or to request an invitation to private events.
Our next event is an open studio from 1-4 pm on Saturday, March 17, 2018. The entry gallery installation features original paintings by William Benton. This is another opportunity to see Benton's hand-painted Writer's Block Beer cans. We have copies of his limited edition, hand made books, and two of his published books of poetry. There are two paintings on view by Duncan Hannah, and a large intaglio print by James McGarrell, titled Marmalade, made to accompany a deluxe portfolio edition of Benton's translation of Mallarme's L'Apres Midi d'un Faune, illustrated by McGarrell. Benton called the book Marmalade - Drifts, Gists, Drafts, Versions and Takes on the Poems of Stephane Mallarme'. We've added another work by McGarrell titled "Daytime Dancing" a luminous interior in blue with three figures, painted on paper. It's like a window to a wonderful afternoon in Italy! In the studio you'll see our own original works, and we've set up a mini-sale of a few special pieces from our collection. Stop by and say hello!
